about

This is a song from a black quartet about whom very little is known beyond their unusual name - Middle Georgia Singing Convention No.1. It belongs to the African-American shape-note singing tradition, whose style is quite distinct from Sacred Harp singing, with syncopated rhythms between the four parts. The original recording was released as part of an Okeh 78 entitled Atlanta, GA. Gospel 1923-1931, and can be found on the Yazoo collection The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of.
